The beginner yoga class will introduce you to the basic principles of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It will strengthen your foundation in some of the key standing, sitting and back-bending asana and help you to understand alignment and experience benefits. The course is designed to establish an independent yoga practice. With breathing practices (Pranayama), you will explore how meditation can help you to connect deeply with the breath and calm the mood, enhancing your yoga practice and overall wellbeing.
This class is suitable for students who have completed the Six Weeks Beginners Course, or have some yoga experience, of any style. Complete beginner’s are welcome to try it, if you are up for a little bit of a challenge. Each class begins with sun salutations, standing, seated and finishing asana. Some yoga experience and basic understanding of alignment is recommended to take the full advantage of this class and also strengthen your personal practice.
The class is not “led” as a whole but rather each student receives a personalized guidance from the teacher, so that the practice is learnt slowly and progressively, virtually one posture at a time, while committing the sequence to memory. The teacher circulates quietly, giving individual adjustments and tailoring the series according to each individual’s level and needs. It allows students to develop independent practice. The student’s inward focus on self-practice is an opportunity to foster the meditative state we seek from yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style is a system is practiced independently with individual guidance and assistance by the teacher and fellow experienced yogi. The Mysore Style was taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in South India until his death in 2009. Pattabhi Jois lived in Mysore, the South Indian city, which gave this unique teaching method its name: Mysore Style.
Why Mysore Style?
The strength of Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga teaching is that it helps you to develop a personal practice and practicing with fellow Yogis will encourage you to deepen your practice and bring a sense of self-discipline and confidence in your practice. The participants are verbally guided, receive demonstrations and "hands-on" support. According to their own requirements and abilities, the individual body holdings (asanas) can be varied in order to develop their potential.
What is so special?
The best part is your practice on your own pace and capacity. No previous knowledge is necessary.
You can come earlier or later than 6 am. If you practice more than 90 minutes, please inform us beforehand, then you can either start earlier or practice longer.
If you would like to attend the Mysore class for the first time, please contact us by e-mail (manoj@ashtanga-heidelberg

Personal Lessons and Group Yoga
Week Days and Weekend upon appointment
Private one-on-one tuition was traditionally the only way Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga was taught and is therefore the ideal way to develop your yoga practice. In this environment a dedicated teacher with the best interests of the student can transmit the wisdom and practice of yoga cleanly and directly without misunderstanding or confusion. Asanas and breathing techniques are given to the individual as and when the teacher deems the student is ready, allowing for a firm grounding within the practice with less likelihood of injury, excessive physical fatigue or any other associated problems.
Private one-on-one sessions are usually much more hands on than public classes as physical adjustments immediately correct alignment issues and postural imbalances, communicating to the student what they need to focus upon in each specific movement or asana.
Learn yoga in the same way as the ancient yogis of India
If you are just starting in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, private tuition will give you the best start you can possibly have… and if you are a long term practitioner this approach will give you fresh inspiration and insight into your practice, facilitating greater potential for growth within your own personal practice.
Tuition can be carried out at a venue to suit you or at your home; all you need is a quiet, warm (and preferably uncluttered!) room and 60-90 minutes of commitment. Up to 3 addition friends or family members can also join in if desired (maximum 4 per group).
I can also teach you what to look for in each pose so that you can help others in their practice, knowledge which will also help the development of your own practice.
Private Tuition can also be helpful if:
- you have previous injuries or specific health concerns.
- you want to spend time developing certain areas of your practice.
- you are a sports person or athlete and want to work towards a specific goal, such as increased flexibility or to target problem areas.
Please contact Manoj if you are interested in private yoga classes for you, you and your colleagues/ partner or with small group of friends.
